January 22 (Li Ming) Broadcom (hereinafter referred to as "Broadcom") announced that it officially launched the industry's first 10Gb Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) optical network unit (ONU) single-chip system (SoC) solution. Broadcom's 10Gbps BCM55030 single-chip system solution provides 10 times the bandwidth of the existing 1G EPON solution. It is very suitable for 4G / LTE mobile backhaul, supporting both guaranteed QoS bandwidth and timing allocation.
In addition to standard 1G and 10G modes, the solution also supports Broadcom 2.5G Turbo EPON. According to C114, Broadcom has begun to provide early customers with samples of BCM55030 system solutions.
According to Jay Teborek, Broadcom ’s Asia Pacific Carrier Market Development Manager, Broadcom supports multiple logical link identifiers (Logical Link IdenTIfier) on each optical network unit. With this technology, BCM55030 can pass a common infrastructure, while High-quality transmission of residential business, mission-critical, enterprise business and base station backhaul. Allows time-sensitive mobile backhaul and synchronization data to share the network with video, voice, and Internet data without increasing latency, data loss, or reducing quality of service (QoS). This solution is very suitable for equipment manufacturers and service providers to provide corresponding services in densely populated urban areas.
For fiber-to-the-building (FTTB) multi-dwelling unit (MDU) applications, Broadcom ’s 10G EPON optical network unit enables operators and OEMs to upgrade on the basis of the existing 1G EPON network. User bandwidth, truly realize high-speed four-play service. For fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications, it benefits from new ultra-high-speed delay-sensitive services, such as 3D TVs and interactive online games.
Jay Teborek said that by 2014, 10G EPON equipment sales revenue is expected to increase to 1 billion US dollars, and China will become the world's first country to deploy 10G EPON for MDU (FTTB), so China is actively deploying EPON. Jay Teborek revealed, "Broadcom has recently expanded its 10G EPON trials with Chinese telecom operators and multiple service operators (MSO) to provide high-speed broadband interconnection.
